To allow the Omics Hub to serve the researchers smoothly and productively, the following Omics Hub management guidelines have been established.
I. New Users
Please read all of the guidelines below! New users interested in using the Omics Hub should contact Taylor Seay (tault1@tennessee.edu) with any questions or to schedule training for instruments.
II. Standard Protocols and Procedures
Standard protocols are kept next to the instrument where needed. If you are unfamiliar with operating an instrument in the laboratory, training is mandatory, so please make an appointment to meet with Taylor Seay (tault1@tennessee.edu) before using. Please do not hesitate to ask questions.
III. Reserving Instruments
The majority of the instruments available for use in the laboratory require a reservation. Please be respectful of those who have reserved ahead of time and do not use an instrument before you have confirmed it is available via the calendar. To reserve the equipment and view the calendar(s), visit the Omics Hub Sharepoint site and log in with your UTK credentials. QR codes for the reservation form and calendars are also available next to every instrument.
IV. Shared Reagents
The Omics Hub does not maintain any shared reagents. However, we are able to get kits/reagents at a discounted price from some vendors (i.e. ZymoResearch) upon request.
V. Stock Reagents
The Omics Hub is a Thermo Fisher Scientific Supply Center. We can have frequently used reagents/kits on hand that you can order and will be available immediately for pick up in the laboratory. If you are interested in utilizing the supply center, please contact Taylor Seay for how to register and items you are interested in stocking.
VI. Liquid Nitrogen
Liquid nitrogen (LN) tanks are kept in PBB 332 and available for users to dispense LN into their own containers. Users will be charged a per liter cost. Safety first, please do not dispense LN if you are not trained. When you dispense LN, please fill out the liquid nitrogen log on the Omics Hub Sharepoint site; a QR code to the form is also available next to the tanks. If you finish a tank or start a new tank, please include this information in the comments section on the form. See Taylor Seay in PBB 308/ANR 363 if you need assistance.
VII. File and Document Management
Data must be transferred out of equipment in a timely manner. Please email the data to yourself and avoid using USB’s if possible as they can cause infections. No data should be stored in the shared equipment computer for more than two weeks.
VIII. User Communication
Please contact Taylor (tault1@tennessee.edu) to be added to the Omics Hub users email list for lab announcements. The Omics Hub website and SharePoint website for equipment reservations will be maintained. The lab staff will maintain the site with updated protocols, management guidelines, fees, and news.
